Emily Margaret Kim is an award-winning film composer from NYC. Often told that her music holds an emotional power that gives goosebumps and leaves hairs standing, Emily seeks to write emotionally immersive, inspiring scores that capture hearts and minds, and transport audiences into creatively imagined on-screen worlds. Growing up as a classically trained pianist and oboist, Emily has always had a love and a gifted ear for music. At 5 years old, Emily found herself curiously playing melodies she picked up from her surroundings by ear at the piano. She began studying piano more formally at the age of 6, and took it upon herself to later learn guitar at age 10, and oboe at age 14. Emily studied piano and oboe at the prestigious Mannes School of Music (Pre-College Division) in NYC, and spent summers playing music at the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Luzerne Music Center.

Emily has always had a love for the transformative storytelling powers of both music and film. She finds joy in collaborating with and developing meaningful connections with filmmakers who share a passion for telling stories of all kinds through art forms. She has worked on scores for films that have been featured in film festivals, including the Academy Award® & BAFTA qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival. Emily recently won honorable mention for “Original Score” at the Cal Film Festival in May 2025.

Emily graduated with a dual degree in Music with honors from Brown University, where she studied composition with Eric Nathan, Anthony Cheung, and Butch Rovan, and conducting with Mark Seto. During the ’22-’23 Academic Year, she received Brown’s Muriel Hassenfeld Mann Premium in Music, which annually recognizes a female student who excels in music. Emily is currently attending NYU Steinhardt’s Screen Scoring Program for her Master’s.
